i've started writing more poetry again...which means that i'm frustrated about stuff...which is, on the whole, accurate. i mean, i'm not upset or unhappy or anything. i just want tyler to come home, i guess. i miss talking to him, even though we rarely talked about anything of value, those conversations meant a whole lot to me. plus, he says he is now tan and buff, and i think i'd have to see it to believe it...lol, tyler...i'm just kidding! :-) this poetry is different though, i'm experimenting with free form, seeing if i'm any good at it, but i suppose i'll let you be the judge of that...this is a poem i haven't titled yet and i actually haven't finished but i think i want to call it "progression"...

childhood. a frivolous time
of crazy song and wild dance
where your monumental struggles
deal with which crayon to use
when coloring the giraffe in the book.
blue or purple?
maybe both.
because all your options are open
as you discover wide-eyed
the world around you.
you could be an astronaut
or maybe a firefighter
or save the world from the meanies of the day
every dream is conceivable
and any star is within reach
life is a carousel that never stops
nor do you want it to

then one day you wake up
and your innocent youth
is stolen like money from a bank
and in its place the bandits leave
legs too long and zits too big
for anyone to ever deem you cool.
suddenly you're forced to choose,
blue or purple?
because you can't have both.
you can't straddle the fence
between childhood and adolescence
because society won't permit you
pitched headfirst into a monutain
of facewash, lipgloss, and pantyhose
you pack up your barbies, your g.i. joes
and stash them under your bed
hidden in the folds of your identity
because you'd die
if anyone ever saw them
life's one frantic dance
and you wish it would slow down long enough
for you to get a date
to the dance on friday night...

any comments? (if i suck please don't tell me.... of course i hope i don't suck...)
