i really liked the homily by fr. ken this morning. the gospel was from matthew, where jesus invites peter to walk on water in the middle of a storm at sea (well...at lake, to be technical...). and peter walks a few steps but then he loses his focus and says "lord, save me!" and jesus extends his hand and saves him. really, an incredible story, one that i should prolly read more often...anyway, according to fr. ken, some theologists actually believe that jesus knew where all the stones were and he walked right on top of the stones so it would look like he was walking on water. and while i don't believe at all that's what happened (i know that if god created water he can surely walk on it), i do think that jesus knows where all the stones are. and he sets them up for us so that, if we maintain our focus on him, we too can walk on water. but if we lose our focus, we lose sight of where the stones are, and we sink, as peter did... we can escape the chaos of the world, keep ourselves from sinking, if we focus on him.

the only problem with this whole focus business is that it is extremely hard.....
