first game last night. a night of multiple emotions...anger during the run-through because i felt like everyone was out to get me and because some directors appear to care little about the fact that some people have very little time to get back to their houses to get ready. no names...then pure frustration because, after i came home, i realized that i had left my drumline shirt at the senior high. so i had to go get that and because of it, i was late coming to the stadium and a few insensitive people gave me crap about it. fear, at the beginning of the game, and paranoia because i really wanted to get everything right during pre-game, i didn't want to screw the whole band up starting. pain in my heels from standing on the field waiting for what seemed like an hour but was prolly only about 10 minutes. laughter from playing the staring game with drum majors while waiting. bittersweet pride when we played our nation's anthem. i don't think it's too selfish for liz and lyd and i to want to play by ourselves, the current compromise pleases nobody. i get one measure of solo. (nobody else even gets a solo, i guess i should be thankful, but we used to get the whole thing...) plus i'm told it doesn't sound very good. i hope someone got a recording of it so behrends can hear. anyway. then embarassment when we marched off the field and i stopped playing. i guess i confused pre-game with competition, when i do stop taps after drumline leaves the field. my bad. of course, i didn't need to be told three times that i screwed up, but you know...i guess they weren't aware of the other two. meh!
so then we got into the stands. more frustration because every time i called a cadence i got dirty looks from the drum majors because they were about to call up a song. and then they would sit there and talk to people and we wouldn't play. and then we'd get the ball. so drumline didn't get to play much last night. i guess i have to be more aggressive. next time (which isn't next game, colton's tapping off cadences next week...) i will be. and they can just sit on their thumbs and rotate. :-) pity for lindsay because her stand broke and she had to wear her carrier...but not too much pity because i had to do that for two years.
then halftime. happiness because people seemed to realize i was tense and went out of their way to tell me good luck. all in all, halftime went really well, i think, not counting the second time through bridgemen...wow...interesting. ryan and i were right with each other pretty much the whole time. drumline did really well. i think everyone lost their focus a bit second half, i know i did, all the alumni were there for us to talk to and hang out with. it was pretty cool. exciting. excitement when i heard my alma mater, saw all the people from my grade with their fingers in the air, realizing that this is our time. hey...good song. "this is your time, this is your dance, live every moment and leave nothing to chance..."
wow. long entry. :-) i think i'll stop now. prolly boring all of you to tears!
