just thought of something for my non-collegiate readers... if any of you are thinking about visiting UT or (gulp!) going here sometime in the future, please let me know and i can show you around, show you the ropes, etc. i know UT tends to get a bad rep from other colleges (because they wish they could be UT but they're not), but seriously, if you're looking for a great education at a great price, UT is a great choice. one word of warning though: you have got to be self-sufficient in more ways than one to survive here. you've got to be able to stand up for yourself, ask questions when you don't understand, and be assertive about getting the best education you can get. if you look you can find an ivy league education (or better!) here, but you have to know how to ask questions. personally, i'm attracted to the idea of pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps (one of the concepts that brought me here in the first place). not that there aren't a million people ready and willing to help you here. and austin- need i say more? i LOVE the vibe i get in austin, whether i'm admiring a screenprint by andy warhol or taking a stroll along the colorado river in zilker park or getting dark chocolate ice cream from amy's (best EVAR!) or yelling my rear end off with 80,000 other longhorn fans. i haven't even been to sixth street once since i got here and i'm having a blast. this is all just one big tired thought. i trust in the end you guys will all find the colleges that are right for you; i'm just adding a shameless plug for my own, because i'm biased and i can do whatever i want to in my own blog. so there!
