greetings to all...
i had a really, really nice (ACL-free, but that's okay) weekend. spent friday at this neat bar downtown with the newly-formed over 21 club, which was AWESOME considering how much i hang out with people my brother's age or younger nowadays. just sitting down in a relatively quiet atmosphere with a decent beer talking about life and relationships HONESTLY for a change... it meant more to me than i can describe. because i love the younger, hipper crowd - really - but it is so nice to hang out with people who are also facing the challenge of determining life after college.
speaking of which... one week from tomorrow i'm beginning to visit grad schools. *gulp* part of me wonders what happened to the last three years of my life... and part of me wonders when i get to move on and do more of what i love to do.
my independent study has been going really, really great so far. i'm not working with music therapists yet, but i've been spending hours and hours reading current research on how music therapy helps people... lots of people... and it's been fascinating. i'd go on reading forever if i didn't get to the end of a book or if my eyes didn't feel like they'd bulge out of their sockets. it's that good - if you learn to read through the statistics mumbo-jumbo (though that stuff is important) and see what people are saying. i read a case study on a woman in a vegetative state where they did music therapy with her and it elicited emotional responses that nothing else could, thus proving that she could indeed respond to her environment - a huge step in facilitating daily life for this woman. and for some reason, i'm reading all of this and feeling myself tearing up, like i was in the room with this woman when it happened and i saw her lift her head, look towards the music, close her eyes, and know exactly what's going on.
amazing.
life is amazing.
