so in reference to the previous post, i'm slowly but surely figuring things out. i hope to go talk to some people for grad school in a few weeks, maybe go to some classes... see how things are, i guess. i talked to mari a couple of days ago and we both agreed that serious thought about post-UT is scary as hell, especially for music majors like the two of us. it's so easy to just put all planning off because the thought of leaving austin and leaving my friends scares me, but as i'm slowly but surely getting into the planning and applying, it's less and less scary. sometimes i look around me and think to myself that it's a good thing i'm leaving after this year because i'm ready for something new. other times i don't think i ever want to leave.
so i started working at the on-campus gym-it's a fairly easy, fairly interesting job with very flexible hours. there's been a few very, very tired moments (can you say being woken up at 6 am and told that i was late for my opening shift only to show up and find out someone had mistakenly written my name down?), but everyone's so cool about things (the person who wrote my name down felt so bad she bought me breakfast tacos and juice and gave me a really nice write-up!) that it makes it a lot of fun.
Top three reasons why working at a gym > working at a shoe store:
1) fellow employees are 75% male... hence, less drama.
2) you get moved around to different duties every hour-no eight-hour box straightening shifts for me :-)
3) customers have lots and lots endorphins in their bodies and therefore are really cool to work with.
in other news, anybody who has ever written an independent study proposal before and has tips, please comment/e-mail/smoke signal me. i am completely, utterly lost.
as soon as my friend thao returns my camera, i will take pictures of the house and post them. my room looks so awesome it should be criminal :-)
